Expect a lot of daddy drama when NCIS: Los Angeles returns for its seventh season on Sept. 21 when Callen finally learns the truth about his father.
It can be recalled that in the final episode of Season 6, Hetty had to lie to Callen about the details of his father’s death, but this is expected to be resolved when the show picks up three months after the events of the finale.
Based on a report by Design and Trends, the premiere episode will trigger Callen’s need to understand what happened to his father after an encounter with someone from his past but this will take its toll on the team’s relationship as Callen becomes more secretive.
According to executive producer Shane Brennan to TV Guide, Callen’s constant disappearances will lead the team to suspect about what he’s been up to and result in conflict with Hetty and the rest of the team.
“Callen goes a little rogue,” Brennan teased in his interview. He said that while the team has established a solid foundation built from years of working together, Callen’s lack of honesty will result in a lot of trust issues.
“He finds himself in a very difficult situation with Hetty and Sam (LL Cool J), because he’s not telling them what he’s got himself caught up in. In the tradition of this show, we plant the seeds of something to come, and it has a fairly major impact halfway through the season, in a double-episode,” he said.
Most of the conflict is Hetty’s opposition to Callen’s plan to find his dad, which will eventually result in the entire team going after Callen to stop his investigation.
The scene even goes so far as having Hetty and Sam threatening to shoot Callen, based on the recently released season trailer.
