Following the two-hour premiere of “NCIS: Los Angeles” season 8, episode 3, titled “The Queen’s Gambit,” will find the team down two members as Hetty Lange (Linda Hunt) is held for questioning and Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) is in the ICU after the debacle in Syria.
While Hetty confessed to being the mole, Under Secretary of Defense Corbin Duggan (Jackson Hurst) refuses to believe her since he thinks it is another one of Hetty’s mind games. Is she really the mole all along? What is her plan?
Viewers will probably remember that Hetty sent Nell Jones (Rene Felice Smith) a text with “1D4D52C4” written on it. Owen Granger (Miguel Ferrer) explained that this is a chess move called The Queen’s Gambit, which a player makes by sacrificing a pawn to gain an advantage. So, Hetty probably has a plan and fans will see this unravel in the upcoming episode which is aptly named after the chess move.
What about Kensi? What will happen to her?
Parade points out that this is a good time to shake things up since Ruah is on maternity leave. Sources believe that Kensi will be sidelined as she recovers, so viewers won’t be seeing her for a while. This means Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) may get a new partner, albeit temporarily, and his long-awaited proposal will have to wait.
In an interview with Parade, actor LL Cool J, who portrays Sam Hanna, revealed that there are no guarantees when it comes to partnerships in the show. “The partners are always up for grabs,” he stated.
LL Cool J also revealed that there are going to be some character changes happening this season while others would get eliminated. “It’s going to be not business as usual, but, I think, exciting for NCIS: Los Angeles fans.”
“NCIS: Los Angeles” season 8 episode 3, “The Queen’s Gambit,” will air on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 8 p.m. EDT on CBS.
