'Naruto Shippuden' episode 490 news, spoilers: Shikamaru goes to the Land of Silence to deal with Gengo

“Naruto Shippuden” episode 489 may be a little laid back, just like Shikamaru, but the action is about to pick up in the upcoming episode when the team from Konoha travels to the Land of Silence.

According to the preview trailer, “Naruto Shippuden” episode 490 is titled “Shikamaru’s Story: A Cloud Drifting in the Silent Dark, Part 2: Dark Clouds,” and it will feature Shikamaru, Ro, and Soku attempting to infiltrate the mysterious country to assassinate its leader, Gengo, before the situation worsens.

That may be their primary objective, but Shikamaru is also there to find out what happened to Sai and the rest of the shinobi that went missing.

But Gengo is no ordinary villain. Sai was in awe of the country’s leader, and his hastily written note serves as a warning to those who would threaten the Land of Silence. As seen in the trailer, Shikamaru wants to get into the country without causing any bloodshed because it may cause more trouble if the people there find out that Hidden Leaf Village shinobis are the ones responsible.

Their main objective is to go in, take care of matters, and get out before anyone notices that they are there. But they will need to have a lot of luck to remain undetected. Shikamaru also doesn’t want to underestimate their enemy, especially when he knows practically nothing about Gengo.

This story arc is based on a light novel written by Takashi Yano and illustrated by “Naruto” creator Masashi Kishimoto. The novel is titled “Shikamaru Hiden: A Cloud Drifting in Silent Darkness.” Anime fans who can’t wait to see what happens in the next few episodes can check it out what happens to Shikamaru and his team.

New episodes of “Naruto Shippuden” air every Thursday and are available in North America via simulcast on Crunchyroll.
