The upcoming season of the hit Netflix original “Narcos” could be the final season of the series.
“Narcos” shows the life of Colombia’s drug king pin, Pablo Escobar, who is played by Wagner Moura. The Netflix series depicted the real story behind the iconic character, which had viewers educated on the country’s history.
However, the captivating story could soon be coming to an end. Recent reports explained that the executives behind the series have been planning to portray the death of the show’s lead character, Pablo Escobar.
It was stated that Escobar died on a rooftop during a cop chase. With that, reports stated that the executive producers of the series tracked down the actual rooftop where Escobar died, with the hope of using it for the upcoming season. This indicated that the show will soon portray the character’s death, which had fans worried about its fate.
The producer of the series, Eric Newman, spoke to Slash Film about the character’s death in the upcoming season. He admitted that fans will soon witness the death of Escobar as they wanted to keep true to his life story.
He said, “He will die. The design of the show is we told 15 years of history in season one. At the point of Escobar’s escape which is the summer of 1992, Escobar has 18 months to live. That’s not something we can change. To stretch that out beyond another season would be disingenuous of us. That story was always designed to have an ending.”
However, Newman did not confirm that it will be the show’s final season. He said, “There are any number of things that can happen after. We have not committed to one or the other. Obviously, there are a lot of other stories in this world that continue on beyond him.”
“Narcos” season 2 is expected to air later this year.
