'Mr. Robot' season 2 release date: Sam Esmail is hands-on with filming

Prior to the start of production of “Mr. Robot” season 2, there are already some hints about the general theme and storyline of its sophomore run. Now that the filming has been running for around a month, director Sam Esmail and the cast members gave a behind-the-scenes look of the show.

In an interview with Variety about a week ago, Christian Slater, who plays Mr. Robot in the American thriller and drama television series, revealed that Esmail is hands-on with filming. The actor said, “It was so perfect that Sam was there to be the oracle, to guide us along and keep us on track.”

Esmail himself wanted to take the matter to his hands for season 2 to ensure that everything will go according to what he has in mind. He explained, “I am so very specific in how I want to shoot the show and the visual grammar of how I want to tell the story.”

The director added, “It’s nothing against our directors in the first season, because they were all great to work with. For me, it feels like it would be easier to manage day to day. I’m on the set every day anyway, and I just think it would make the whole show be more efficient.”

Season 2 of “Mr. Robot” is expected to explore the storyline of Elliot (Rami Malek) after getting the biggest revelation in season 1 that Mr. Robot is just a figment of his imagination. It will also explore his mental illness and internal conflict and at the same time, tackle some real-world issues such as data encryption, privacy, and perhaps even terrorism.

Season 2 of “Mr. Robot” is expected to premiere around summer this year. In the meantime, fans who are interested with the soundtrack of the show may pre-order volume 1 from Amazon, slated for release on May 27.
