The hit USA Network thriller series “Mr. Robot” will be back for a new season, after a highly successful first season. The series, for its first season, focused on the theme of hacking and the way that “hacktivists” used the technology and the skills that they have to change the world. Now, for the second season, series actors Rami Malek and Christian Slater, who play to roles of Elliot Alderson and Mr. Robot, preview what’s to come.
In a recent interview with Collider, Malek and Slater talked about the changes that would be coming for the new season, the risk that the team behind the show had taken in upping the ante, and how the big plot twists of the first season were revealed to them.
Malek talked about bringing in changes for the new season, discussing the changing of the “blueprint” of the show, something that he said that he had feared about.
“It changes him, entirely,” he said of his character Elliot. “It gave me heart palpitations because when you do something that people respond to, and then you start altering the blueprint for what worked, it’s pretty fear-inducing. But sometimes, you have to do that, in order to push the boundaries. For this character and story to be as provocative as it was in the first season, we can’t rest on our laurels. You really have to just take some more risks and chances that I don’t think are for the sake of just taking risks and being different.”
As for plot twists, Slater revealed that he was made aware of the first season’s big plot twists regarding his character. Instead of the knowledge of the twist serving as a hindrance to his acting, it actually helped deliver great mystery to his acting. Slater said that it helped him add a deeper layer of acting to his character.
“Mr. Robot” will air Mondays on USA Network starting July 13.
