'Mr. Robot' season 2 news: Series creator Sam Esmail talks about Whiterose's role in the new season

“Mr. Robot’s” fresh theme  has catapulted it to become one of this season’s most watched TV shows. It has garnered rave reviews not only from fans but also from professional critics resulting to a number of awards and nominations.

One of the memorable characters in the show is B.D. Wong’s Whiterose. At first, the character was perceived as a man, but by episode 8, the ubiquitous leader of the hacking group that Elliot (Rami Malek) was a part of turned out to be a transgender. Despite limited time in the series, the character was complex, and the angle of being a transgender also added to the topics tackled by the show. This is why series creator Sam Esmail is definitely bringing him back for another serving.

“He was so amazing in the first season, I would be stupid not to use him more this season,” Esmail revealed in the Television Critics Association Press Tour as reported by TV Insider. However, Esmail also revealed that he will be using the character in small parts because “he’s got such a great mystery around him.”

The finale of season 1 created a good springboard for Whiterose’s character as after the credits were rolled out, she was seen attending a dinner party hosted by E. Corp CEO Philip Price (Michael Cristofer), where she exuded an entirely different aura compared to when she was working with Elliot.

As previously reported, Grace Gummer will be joining the show as an FBI agent delving into the hacking at E. Corp and whether Whiterose will be on Elliot’s side or not is still left unknown.

“Mr. Robot” season 2 is scheduled to return to the airwaves this June on USA Network.
