Alyssa Milano will be absent from the third season of ABC’s hit show, Mistresses.
As a result, TV Line said, her character Savi will be replaced by Calista Raines, who will be played by Jennifer Esposito.
TV Line described Raines as a “uber-fabulous and larger-than-life”character who will take Savi’s place as “friend, mentor and surrogate sister” to Jes Macallan’s character, Joss, who is also Savi’s younger sister.
However, the Venture Capital Post reported, Raines will not be the friend that she seems to Joss because the character will lead Joss to “darker and betray-driven” world.
According to the International Business Times (IB Times), Milano cited the third season’s location in Vancouver, Canada as a reason for her departure.
“After two wonderful seasons in Los Angeles, the studio has decided to shoot season three of Mistresses in Vancouver, Canada, for financial reasons. It’s with a heavy heart that I have decided that I can’t relocate,” the actress, who is a mother of two, said in the IB Times article.
The production will have to find a way around to present Savi’s departure from the show, but Macallan said that there will definitely be no “time jump” to six months later to explain the absence of Milano’s character from the show.
“Why skip away from [the drama of the Season 2 finale] and be like, here’s our characters six months later?” Macallan said in an article at the Gospel Herald.
The actress added that using a time jump would be doing the fans of show a “disservice.”
“Everybody had big news coming in,” she added.
The Gospel Herald also reported that the third season will dive into the mysterious diagnosis that Karen Kim received at the finale.
Kim was diagnosed as negative for HIV, “but something else came up,” the article said.
The third season of Mistresses will air in ABC on June 18.
