One of the most popular movies in the 90s was “Men in Black,” starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones as Agent J and Agent K, respectively. After a few years since “Men in Black 3” aired in 2012, the movie is reportedly coming back for a spin off featuring a female agent.
Producer Laurie MacDonald confirmed to BBC, “There will be a prominent woman in black in the fourth [film].” Along with her husband Walter Parkes, the duo worked on the first three films and will work together for the upcoming spinoff.
Some believe that Will Smith will not be returning to reprise his role in the upcoming film, but Parkes immediately said, “Never count Will out.” This could imply that the movie star may still join the fourth movie.
At the moment, the movie is still on its early stages. Parkes revealed that they are looking into the first three films in retrospect as the “Men in Black” movies are somewhat considered a trilogy. Now, the duo might be working on a new angle. Parkes explained, “Now we are looking at a reinvention. But it’s a wonderful world to get back into.”
Earlier this year, there was news that “Jump Street” franchise series main characters Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum will cross the world of “Men in Black” to investigate aliens, noted The Wrap. However, the producers have not mentioned anything about this during the interview. The said crossover may or may not happen and it seems too early to pin down the information.
“Men in Black” first premiered in 1997, followed by a sequel in 2002, and “Men in Black 3” ten years after in 2012. No official word has been released regarding both the cast for the new female lead as well as the target premiere date of the upcoming “Men in Black” film yet.
