An official clip for the second installment of James Dashner’s young adult book turned movie franchise, “Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials” asks lead character Thomas which side he is on, as the battle between the Gladers and WCKD continues.
Following their audacious escape from the first movie, the Gladers find themselves in the hands of the WCKD, a mysterious organization that readers know has put the teenagers in the experimental maze to see how they survive, and presumably save humanity from the post-apocalyptic state they have experienced.
Thomas is played by Dylan O’ Brien while the one interrogating him in the footage is Assistant Director Janson, portrayed by “Game of Thrones” actor, Aiden Gillen. Janson will supervise the group and take them into Phase 2 of the trial.
The full trailer was previously released and it shows that the characters “can be the key to everything,” as they proceed to the desolate, desert-looking place called “The Scorch.” Thomas found out that they were not the only prisoners and there are other mazes. He begins to investigate as he believes the organization is hiding something, “They lied to us, we never escaped. This has just been part of their plan.” The sneak peek ended with a voice ominously saying, “The course of your lives will determine the course of humanity. Into light or darkness.”
Aside from continuing their adventure to freedom, the sequel is expected to give more focus on the budding romance between Thomas and Kaya Scodelario’s Teresa.
Returning members of the cast include Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Ki Hong Lee while making their debut in the film are Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel and Katherine McNamara. Wes Ball will direct again and T.S. Nowlin pens the script.
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials will hit theaters on September 18 in 3D, 2D, and IMAX.
