Last week on “Married at First Sight,” two of the marriages appeared to be working out, while one couple didn’t try to hide their intense dislike of each other.
After Heather Seidel and Derek Schwartz had a fight wherein she called him out on his smoking and he accused her of being an alcoholic, the two had a truce and shared breakfast on the balcony. Derek thought that going on a surfing lesson might turn things around for them. However, at the lesson, Derek noticed that Heather seemed to be getting along more with their instructor and noted how she held the surfing pro’s hand. Derek was distressed because he thought that Heather wasn’t into hand-holding and thought that his new wife was flirting with their instructor.
Derek confronted Heather about it, saying that he was feeling completely overlooked while she gave all of her attention to the surfing instructor. Heather told the cameras that she and Derek appeared to be incompatible and that talking to him was like talking to “an emotional teenage girl.”
Meanwhile, Lillian Vilchez and Tom Wilson appeared to be getting closer on their honeymoon, but Tom has yet to tell his new wife that he’s living in a bus. Thinking that it would ruin the honeymoon if he told her the truth, Tom chose to keep quiet about his living conditions for the moment.
In episode 7 titled “For Richer or Poorer,” the couples move in together as the honeymoons conclude, and Lillian will finally realize that Tom lives in a bus. Meanwhile, Sonia Granados will have to face her fear of dogs after finding out that Nick Pendergrast has two, and Heather and Derek visit a pastor in hopes of saving their marriage.
It looks like episode 8 will see a turning point in Heather and Derek’s relationship as the two decide if they want to continue the experiment. If the pair decides to divorce, this will mark the first time in the series that a couple chose to end their marriage before the season finale.
“Married at First Sight” airs on Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m. ET on FYI.
