Three names are on the list for Manny Pacquiao’s next fight Terence Crawford, Amir Khan and Kell Brook eyed sometime for February or March next year.
However, before even arranging a fight, Pacquiao has to first see a doctor regarding the right shoulder injury he suffered from the twelve-round decision loss against Floyd Mayweather Jr last May. In his previous bout, his right shoulder cuff was torn and had to be surgically repaired, and is now in its recovery phase. Nonetheless, this type of injury takes a long time to heal, taking up to two years. If the fight goes ahead early next year, Pacquiao will not be in his 100%.
British boxer Amir Khan (31-3 19 KOs) is hoping that he gets the fight with Pacquiao. Both were under Bob Arum previously and trained together until 2012 when Khan moved to Virgil Hunter. Khan said that a fight with Pacquiao is something he would love to have and with both their fan bases, it would be a huge international fight, although now, it is up to their promoters, notes Boxing Scene.
Khan was passed over for Mayweather’s recent fight in lieu of Andre Berto. Having passed over for the fight for three times now, he said “I think he just wants his undefeated record, that’s the reason he won’t fight me. He’s cheating the fight fans. He can’t call himself the best ever because he’s not fighting guys at their peak.” It is still uncertain whether he will be passed over again for Pacquiao’s fight.
Boxing News 24 said that among the three choices, Arum would most likely pick Crawford and added that Brook and Khan are not serious options for Pacquiao. Meanwhile, the question surfaced as to why Mayweather was not in the pick, but Arum simply said: “Mayweather? He said he’s going to retire,” according to Sports Tempo.
