'Longmire' season 5 spoilers: love, life, and friendship's end

After months of waiting and speculations, the fifth season of the Western-inspired crime drama “Longmire” is finally streaming on Netflix in September. While this may bring good news for the fans, things may not bode so well for the show’s roster of conflicted characters.

The season 4 finale ended with an intruder breaking into Walt Longmire’s (Robert Taylor) house and cutting short his intimate moment with current love interest Donna Monaghan (Ally Walker). Even though the intruder’s face was never shown, it has been speculated that he just might drive a wedge between Walt and Donna’s budding relationship, which would subsequently lead to the much anticipated romance between Walt and his deputy Vic Moretti (Katee Sackhoff).

However, according to Parent Herald, there is also a possibility that this intruder may put Walt’s life on the line and that the county sheriff may either die or survive the confrontation.

There are also speculations about a possible wedding between Walt and Vic that may lead to a fatal car accident that kills one or both of the show’s main characters. Reports have also claimed that Vic may eventually end up with Walt’s best friend, Henry Standing Bear (Lou Diamond Phillips), if Walt does end up dying by the end of season 5.

Speaking of best friends, it looks like tougher times are about to test the foundations of Walt and Henry’s friendship. This is according to a TV friendship analysis done by CarterMatt. Despite the longtime friends having a good rapport and an unshakable respect for each other, all the lying that went on in the previous season are bound to come around and cause more trouble than good for the two of them down the line.

As to whether the series is going to be renewed for another season, it is still not clear since Netflix is keeping news about the series under wraps. A set photo posted by Phillips last month has led to speculations that a season 6 may indeed be in the works. However, Phillips was quick to refute this with a reply to a fan’s tweet saying that nothing’s concrete yet, but that they remain optimistic.

Netflix will be releasing all episodes of “Longmire” season 5 on Sept. 23.
