“We’ve never been one to back down from a fight. Longmire will return to Netflix for Season 5,” that is how the people behind the Western crime themed show announced that it is renewed for another season. Revealed on the show’s official Facebook account on Oct 30, the announcement garnered a staggering 80,635 likes and numerous comments expressing heartfelt thanks from fans and viewers. The post eased the concerns of Longmire fans who were all in anticipation about the continuation of the program.
The show, which started airing in A&E in 2012, wasn’t picked up for a fourth installment by the TV network. Warner Horizon Television then shopped it to another media distributor and on Nov. 19, 2014 it was nabbed by Netflix Inc. The international provider of on demand internet streaming media ran a 10 episode fourth season via online streaming on Sept 10 andd now due to passionate fans of the Hunt Baldwin and John Coveny show, the crime series is gearing up for a fifth outing.
During this summer’s Television Critics Association press tour, Coveny expressed his team’s excitement regarding being picked up by Netflix and continuing the story of Walt Longmire. Netflix said, “We want human beings to watch this show if it has heart and soul to it, we need that piece in the Netflix family. We’re mercifully with a wonderful company now that values viewers over demos and we’re benefiting from that.”
However, given that Netflix has only released the fourth season about two months ago, fans are expected to wait a little bit more for the show’s return. As there is still much time before its 2016 debut, information is still scarce regarding the upcoming installment. But a report by media outlet Realty Today says that fans may expect to see season 5 somewhere September next year which is around the same time season 4 was released.
