'Legion' news, spoilers: Series renewed for second season; villain's identity about to be revealed

The X-Men series “Legion” is set for another season, and it looks like the villain will be revealed before the season ends.

“The first season of ‘Legion’ was a stunning achievement. More than a new series, ‘Legion’ is a wholly original take on the superhero genre. Our thanks to Noah Hawley for taking the creative risks and shattering expectations,” Eric Schrier, FX programming president, confirmed to Entertainment Weekly (EW).

The live-action series stars Dan Stevens as David Haller, a mutant with schizophrenia. David is the son of Charles Xavier, the founder of the X-Men. Due to his psychotic disorder, Charles’ son has been confined in Clockworks Psychiatric Hospital where he met his mutant girlfriend, Syd Barrett (Rachel Keller).

“If she touches your skin she trades places with you, her mind goes into your body and the other way around,” writer-producer Noah Hawley explained to EW. As for David’s powers, Hawley said, “David has psychic abilities telepathy and telekinesis among other things. He’s an omega mutant, he’s very powerful.”

The season opened with David being interrogated with government authorities claiming he was the most powerful mutant. Syd and her two accomplices broke into the government facility and rescued David. They brought him to Melanie Bird (Jean Smart), a psychiatric therapist with an unusual form of treatment.

So far, the comic book-themed series has garnered high ratings, with 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and an 82 out of 100 score on Metacritic.

In the latest episode, David, Melanie, and Syd were transported inside Clockworks as patients. Along with them were Cary (Bill Irwin), Kerry (Amber Midthunder), Ptonomy (Jeremie Harris), and Walter (Mackenzie Gray).

During his therapy session with Dr. Lenny, the schizophrenic mutant has learned the origin of the devil that’s been plaguing him. It turned out that his adoption was made to keep him away from the Devil’s wrath, but sadly, it didn’t work.

As seen in the teaser of the show’s penultimate episode, the yellow-eyed villain has been revealed. The video clip shows Cary confirming that Amahl Farouk, also known as Shadow King, is the demon.

The seventh episode of “Legion” will air on March 22 on FX.
