In 2001, people were treated to a movie which eventually became one of chick flick’s classics of modern age in “Legally Blonde.” Now, after almost 15 years since it was first released, Reese Witherspoon who plays the main protagonist Elle Woods in the movie says she is ready to don the blonde persona again for a 3rd installment.
The 39-year-old actress dropped by fashion stylist Rachel Zoe’s new late night TV show “Fashionably Late with Rachel Zoe” and gamely answered questions sent by fans. One fan asked what is her opinion regarding the idea of doing a new “Legally Blonde” film.
“A lot of writers over the years have come up with different ideas for it. I actually think it’s kind of great right now, because we’re talking about women in politics and how important that is, to get more women. I think it’d be kind of a cool thing to have her be a Supreme Court Justice, or somebody who runs for office,” she answered.
Zoe and co-host Derek Blasberg both got excited to learn that the actress is open to the possibility in doing a new movie even after 10 years from when the sequel was released.
Zoe exclaimed, “Don’t tease me about this because this is like, I’m going to go home with this tonight.”
Witherspoon then was quick to reply that even if she wanted to do a new movie, it would still depend on MGM Studios, the production company behind the movies.
In a separate interview on “The Late Late Show,” Luke Wilson, Witherspoon’s co-star in the movie’s sequel “Legally Blonde 2,” said that he wants to reprise his character as the sequel was not as well-thought of as the first installment was.
“That is why we need to do 3, to win everybody back” the actor told TV show host James Corden.
The original “Legally Blonde” film follows the story of sorority girl Elle Woods as she tries and enrolls at Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend who dumped her.
