Kojima Productions returns: Hideo Kojima partners with Sony

The famed game developer Hideo Kojima found a new home with Sony!

Following his official departure from Konaminot to mention a long thread of corporate drama that happened between the developer and the companyHideo Kojima is now with Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. with the newly formed Kojima Productions as announced by Sony. The studio is set to bring about its first title in partnership with Sony as a PlayStation 4 exclusive.

“PlayStation’s history is one of game innovation and great new franchises,” said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. “Hideo Kojima has been a huge part of that history, and we are therefore delighted that he has chosen to bring his brand new project to life in partnership with PlayStation. We look forward to working with him on an exciting new game and warmly welcome him to the PlayStation family.”

“I will be taking on a new challenge by establishing my own independent studio, and I am thrilled to be able to embark on this journey with PlayStation, who I have continued to work with all these past years,” said Kojima, who stands as the Game Designer at Kojima Productions. “I cannot wait to deliver, with PlayStation, a game that will become a compelling franchise.”

The debut title of the newly formed studio is yet to be announced. Could Kojima Productions pick up the dumped “Silent Hill” project? Unfortunately, the developer cannot work on a “Metal Gear Solid” game as it remains to be owned by Konami.

Guillermo del Toro and Norman Reedus have previously expressed their eagerness to go on with the cancelled “Silent Hill” project should a chance be given. This is back when the feud between Kojima and Konami was still strong, and the game company said that Kojima was “on vacation.”
