It has been more than ten years since “Kingdom Hearts 2” was released and a lot fans are already itching to play the third installment of the franchise. There was a lot of anticipation for new announcements regarding “Kingdom Hearts 3” during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) earlier this month, but instead fans were treated to a new trailer of “Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8.”
A lot of fans are saying that it is Square Enix’s ploy to delay the third installment of the game by releasing another prequel or spin-off game. However, Tai Yasue, the co-director of the game, has mentioned that gamers should not jump to “Kingdom Hearts 3” without playing “Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8.” Though it is still the player’s option if he will skip the game or not, Yasue has emphasized that the story of the prequel will play a vital role in the story of the third installment of the game.
The players will have a chance to play as Aqua, one of the Key Blade Masters of the franchise. Her story will explore the aftermath of “Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep” and “Kingdom Hearts 2.” Her story will act as a prologue to “Kingdom Hearts 3,” but it is said that the third installment will also have its own prologue as well. Also, Yasue has stated that in order to have the full grasp of Sora’s new adventure in “Kingdom Hearts 3,” fans of the franchise must know the story of Aqua in the prequel.
Yasue also confirmed that “Kingdom Hearts 3” will not include “Final Fantasy” worlds. On the other hand, it is said that the game will include new worlds from “Big Hero 6,” “Star Wars,” and “Zootopia.”
In addition, for those who have not played it, “Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance” will also be bundled with the prequel.
“Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue” has no exact release date yet, but it may be launched sometime in December. There will be new announcements regarding “Kingdom Hearts 3” as well during that month.
