Jill Duggar and husband Derick Dillard are currently in Central America as they continue to do their missionary work. Since last year, the couple and their son, Israel, have been away as the pair spread the word of God, and the two even went to school to learn Spanish to make it easier for them to communicate with the locals.
On Monday, July 11, the couple took to their official website to share some updates about their missionary work, and Jill also revealed that her husband almost had a near-death experience after church.
Jill said that a few weeks ago, it was raining hard and Derick had just finished dropping people off after church and was headed back to the house when a friend stopped to talk to him.
“A minute or so later while they were still talking a little ways from the house, a bolt of lightning hit the tree next to our house!” the mother-of-one wrote. Jill added that the blast knocked their friend off his feet.
“We were talking later with some of our friends and realized that had this friend not stopped Derick to talk with him, Derick could’ve been walking through water as he headed to our house and could’ve been electrocuted by the lightning through the water on the ground,” Jill continued. The 25-year-old thanked God for keeping her husband safe, and she also thanked their followers for their prayers.
Earlier this year, there has been some speculation that Derick might be sick as people would often point out that the 27-year-old’s thinner frame and longer hair made him look ill.
Fans of the couple took to Jill’s Instagram page to comment on her husband’s appearance, with one follower saying, “Your man needs to gain weight he is starting to look sick.” Another fan, who claims to be a nurse, notes that there has been a “drastic change” in Derick’s appearance since viewers first saw him on “19 Kids and Counting.”
Jill appears to have addressed the issue on Derick’s health as she said on their blog that while they are very healthy people, it is not unusual to come down with some sort of sickness when living in another country.
“Both of us have been laid out for a few days here and there, thankfully not both at the same time though,” said Jill, adding that they did not have the Zika virus.
The “Jill and Jessa: Counting On” star also confirmed that they will be returning to the United States “for a little while” and that they are looking forward to being home with their family.
