Perhaps the toughest decision for the creators of “Marvel’s Jessica Jones” in the upcoming second season of the web television series is to find a villain that could emulate the viciousness and intrigue of Kilgrave (David Tennant), whom Jessica (Krysten Ritter) had a hard time dealing with in the debut season.
Good news for the fans of the show, executive producer Melissa Rosenberg revealed via Entertainment Weekly that there actually are several villains waiting in line to get a crack at the clever private investigator in season 2, but she also admitted that it’s a wrong move to attempt to beat the performance of Kilgrave in the first season. “Or antagonists, plural,” she said, referring to the prospect of offering more than just one bad guy in the series. “No one is ever going to beat David Tennant as Kilgrave, so you don’t do that. The biggest mistake would be to try to repeat that,” she added.
Meanwhile, several fans are craving for Kilgrave’s return in the next season, but that alone is impossible because the character was officially killed off in the previous season. Therefore, there is no other way but for Jessica, the alcohol-loving hero, to do battle against new antagonists, unless of course there’s a sudden and remarkable way for the writers to resurrect Kilgrave. After all, this is the Marvel Cinematic Universe we’re talking about.
Unfortunately, Rosenberg or anyone involved in the production has not in any way provided a single clue as to who might be the next villains in the new season. The only exciting thing right now is the fact that there will indeed be new characters.
Season 2 of “Marvel’s Jessica Jones” could air in the latter part of next year, although looking at the current trend of Netflix shows getting increasing popularity, it could be a pretty congested schedule for the streaming service/entertainment company. So the safest bet for the second season would be 2018.
