Virgin no more, Jane (Gina Rodriguez) is finally focusing on married life after a series of unfortunate events from Michael’s (Brett Dier) near-death experience that left everyone gasping to last week’s frustrating but successful first night of coupling. This week, the mother-of-one is facing the simpler, yet, equally complicated things about marriage in an all-new “Jane the Virgin.”
Life goes on for Mr. and Mrs. Cordero Jr. in tonight’s episode titled “Chapter Forty-Eight” as they build a home for their family. Unfortunately, as usual in the telenovela-esque series, it will not be as simple as expected. As it turns out, the couple has been slacking on paying their rent and that prompts their landlord to evict them.
In their defense, it has been a roller coaster the past few weeks following the wedding with Michael being fatally shot, his recuperation and their most recent bed shenanigans. Needless to say, it does not seem like enough reason for their proprietor to give them a bit of a wiggle room.
The woes do not stop there with the promo clip for the episode showing Jane in some kind of catfight in a party where both Rogelio (Jaime Camil) and Rafael (Justin Baldoni) are present. This coincides with spoilers that the famous telenovela star will tap the help of the hotelier to finally be able to break through American television
Meanwhile, given that the show’s premise has changed drastically in just one episode, there are questions on whether “Jane the Virgin” will change its title to something more apt for the show’s heroine. Showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman answered the budding question negatively; instead, they will try to make sure that viewers are well aware that the Jane is not a virgin anymore.
“No, not officially. We’re obviously going to play with the text at the beginning. We’ll be striking through the ‘Virgin’ or exploding it off the screen,” the 41-year-old show creator explained in a conversation with Entertainment Weekly. “The sex gave us some stories but wasn’t a major plot. The plot now will deal in the difficulties of motherhood and balancing her career. She’s also a newlywed, which is hard, especially since she has a kid from someone she used to date is hard. It’s the same kind of stories, except now she’s a person who’s had sex. If she and Michael fight, they maybe have a quicker route to make up now. [Laughs] That’s about it.”
“Jane the Virgin” season 3 airs every Monday, 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
