“iZombie” is nearing its season 2 ender, and it wants fans to gear up for a different roller coaster ride building up to the finale.
“Last year, we felt like we had done a big season finale, and I feel like this one dwarfs it,” executive producer Rob Thomas spilled to Collider during the show’s roundtable with a couple of press people during the recently held WonderCon.
“I don’t think a show of our budget has the potential to go any bigger. We saved all year, so that we could blow it out on this final episode, and we really do. It’s as close to a traditional zombie movie as we will or have ever done,” he added.
The season finale is reportedly so massive that it took 10 days, with 14 hours per day shoots for the cast and crew to film the episode instead of the usual eight. Story-wise, it was also revealed that the remainder of the season will be seeing one of the major show players say goodbye to Liv (Rose McIver) as he/she encounters something that will cause him/her to not make it out of season 2.
The last two episodes, titled “Dead Beat” and “Salivation Army,” respectively, will be airing back-to-back on April 12 in an effort to build up momentum for the show as they will present Liv a brand new conflict which will be a major plot point come season 3. Furthermore, the series will also be diverting away from weekly cases in the aforementioned chapters to focus on the bigger picture.
Meanwhile, before “iZombie” gets closer and closer to its finale, this week’s episode will present Liv and Detective Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin) a brand new case involving the suspicious death of Bailey Barker (Haley Marie). In the chapter, fans can also expect the much awaited appearance of Matchbox 20’s Rob Thomas, which was previously reported to be having a cameo role in the show.
The official synopsis of the episode titled “Reflections of the Way Liv Used to Be” reads, “Liv and Detective Babineaux are investigating the murder of Bailey Barker, a type-A, ambitious, hyper-competitive and driven student near the top of her class. After consuming Bailey’s brain we see Liv become very much like the girl she was before becoming a zombie. Meanwhile, things seem to be going from bad to worse for Major (Robert Buckley), and Blaine (David Anders) reaches out to Ravi (Rahul Kohli) for help.
“iZombie” season 2 airs every Tuesday night, 9:00 P.M. EST on The CW.
