“Iron Man 4” may not be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s phase three plans, however, this does not stop the rumors of a fourth solo “Iron Man” movie from swirling around the internet.
However, one rumor, if proven true, may spoil the plans for a fourth film. Chattsportsnet reports that Tony Stark, who is played by Robert Downey Jr., may meet his end on the upcoming “Spider-man: Homecoming.”
Various publications have reported that Marvel may kill off Stark and replace the Iron Man character with Riri Williams, a black 15-year old MIT student who was introduced as Stark’s replacement in the comic books.
Now, who would make a good Williams?
According to Games Radar, Nathalie Emmanuel, who played Missandei on “Game of Thrones,” has already thrown her name into the hat during a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con last month. Emmanuel voiced her willingness to play “some sort of science whiz that also kicks butt like Iron Man.” That does sounds like Williams, doesn’t it?
The news of Williams taking over as Iron Man in the comic books and Emmanuel’s comments on playing a science whiz has the internet buzzing with speculations that she may be talking about playing Stark’s replacement.
It should be noted, however, that the Marvel Cinematic Universe does not always follow the storylines of its comic book counterpart, so there is hope yet for fans of Downey’s Stark.
Could “Iron Man 4” be shelved? Will we see a female Iron Man in the fourth solo installment of the movie franchise?
Until Marvel issues an official statement, speculations regarding Downey’s future with the studio and “Iron Man 4” will continue to circulate around the internet.
As of now, there is still no official news of an “Iron Man 4” movie release date from Marvel.
