Apple’s iPad series continues to grow with the anticipated release of the iPad Mini 5.
Rumor has it that the fifth-generation iPad Mini may be launched in September and may officially be renamed to iPad Mini Pro. Macworld expects the tablet to be launched together with the iPhone 7 on Sept. 16 during Apple’s scheduled press event, the same way that the iPad Mini 4 was released on Sept. 9 last year during a press event for the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus.
Moreover, the iPad Mini 4 has become available on the Apple Refurbished Store, which prompted speculations that the next-generation iPad Mini will not be long on its way.
There are also speculations of an October release. If Apple decides to unveil an iPad Air 3 along with the iPad Mini 5, it is more likely for the tech giant to schedule a separate event for them. The first three iPad Minis were all released at October events in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
The iPad Mini 5 is expected to be much thinner than its predecessors, presumably at an incredible 5 millimeter (mm) encased in a 7000-series aluminum chassis that could be resistant to both dust and water. Cult of Mac speculates that the device will have a smaller battery to complement its thinner design.
The camera quality is expected to stay the same at 8 megapixels (MP) on the back and 1.2 MP at the front, like in the iPad Mini 4. The iPad Mini 5 is also rumored to feature a three-dimensional (3D) touch display, although the possibility of this is pretty low at the moment since the 3D touch technology is currently still being developed.
There are also speculations that the iPad Mini 5 could be the last in the iPad series since Apple is presumably focusing more of its efforts on their MacBook line.
These are all just rumors regarding iPad Mini 5’s possible release date and specifications. Apple has yet to release an official statement addressing these speculations.
