iPad Mini 3 vs. iPad Air 2: what are the key differences?


Thinking of buying an iPad but can’t decide on which one to get? The answer of course always depends on the user’s lifestyle and personal preferences. But for that, take into consideration these two devices: the iPad Mini 3 and the iPad Air 2.


The iPad Air 2 boasts of a 9.7-inch wide display with a thinner make, with as resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels. The display of the device is scratch resistant, thanks to its oleophobic coating. It has a built-in fingerprint sensor equipped with Apple’s Touch ID technology.

The iPad Mini 3, meanwhile, is expected to be smaller than the iPad Air 2. The iPad Mini 3 has a 7.9-inch wide display, with the same 1536 x 2048 pixels resolution, too. It also has an oleophobic coating equipped on the display. A built-in fingerprint sensor with Touch ID technology is also present.


The iPad Mini 3 runs under Apple’s own 1.3GHz dual-core A7 processor, with a PowerVR G6430 GPU. It has three variants with available built0in internal storage of 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB, all having 1GB of RAM. The device does not support microSD expansion.

As for the iPad Air 2, it packs a more powerful A8X tri-core 1.5GHz processor. It, too, has three variants with available built-in storage of 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB with 2GB of RAM. No microSD support is present, too.

The camera of the iPad Air 2 has an 8 MP rear-facing one, with the ability to record videos of up to [email protected], and a 1.2 MP front-facing camera with [email protected] recording capability.

For the iPad Mini 3, it has a 5 MP rear-facing camera with the ability to record videos of up to [email protected], and a 1.2MP front-facing camera [email protected] recording capability.

The iPad Mini 3 is powered by a 6470mAh battery, while the iPad Air 2 boasts of a better battery life that can last up to 10 hours of continuous use.


Both devices come with iOS 8.1 out of the box, and are both upgradable to the latest iOS 8.4.
