Rumors are rife that the next-generation iPad Air may be unveiled in the upcoming October launch event alongside updated versions of the MacBook Pro and iMac devices.
According to reports, despite Apple notoriously keeping details under wraps before the official day of unveiling, some tech enthusiasts believe that the lineup for their tablet will see new products being offered. What may have added to the assumption is the touted trend of the iPad Air’s previous releases which always seem to take place in the month of October.
It can be recalled that the original iPad Air and iPad Air 2 were showcased on Oct. 22, 2013, and Oct. 16, 2014, respectively. If this timeline is followed, it is highly expected that iPad Air 3 will be announced on Oct. 27.
When it comes to specifications, the new gadget is predicted to have a sleeker design and thinner dimensions as compared to its predecessor. The unibody is speculated to be made from 7000-series aluminum, and it may come in several colors such as space gray, rose gold, silver and gold.
The screen is also said to be measure 9.7 inches with a resolution of 3112 x 2334 pixels and a 401 pixel-per-inch density. Under the hood, it may be equipped with either an A10 or A10X processor and packed with bigger random access memory. The camera may be a 12-megapixel lens with True Tone flash.
Similar to the feature introduced in the iPhone 7, the iPad Air 3 is expected to eliminate the traditional 3.5 mm analog headphone jack. Meanwhile, there may also be support for the Apple Pencil, Smart Keyboard cover and 3D Touch technology.
On the other hand, others believe that Apple may have put an end to the iPad Air’s production when they released the iPad Pro 9.7 earlier this year. However, since there is no official statement from the Cupertino-based tech giant, available information should be taken with a grain of salt.
