The iPad Air 3 is rumored to never see the light of day with Apple supposedly phasing out their Air brand. But if it ever gets launched, fans may have to wait a little longer with brand-new reports suggesting that the release will be sometime early next year.
Despite numerous telltale signs that the Cupertino-based giant is quietly retiring their Air roster, persistent rumors suggest that another iteration of the iPad Air will still be rolled out. Speculation has it that Apple currently has the tablet penciled in for a March 2017 launch which, incidentally, is a year after it was supposed to be released.
It can be remembered that earlier this year, during the tech giant’s low-key consumer event, the iPad Air 3 was highly expected to debut alongside the Apple Watch 2. Unfortunately, both devices were not announced. Furthermore, not only was the iPad Air 3 a no-show, it was seemingly replaced by the mini iPad Pro. Some fans were not happy at first with what was dubbed as a cash grab ploy given that the 9.7-inch iPad Pro was pricier than what could have been the iPad Air 3. This is probably why a lot of fans are still hoping for Apple to release the next-generation Air tablet.
It seems that Apple is treading a fine line between making the supposed iPad Air 3 something that would interest tech buffs but not too great that it will offset sales of the iPad Pro 9.7.
Design-wise, PC Advisor UK notes that Apple may not deviate that much from the current iPad Air’s look for its third variation. Although, given the company’s never-ending struggle for all things thin and light, they might go even slimmer than the 6.1 mm thin iPad Air 2.
It will somehow be the same mentality when it comes to specifications. Despite being a so-called new variation, fans are advised not to expect anything that has yet to be seen in other Apple devices for the iPad Air 3. Chances are that the tablet will be carrying over the 9.7-inch screen equipped with a 2048 x 1536-pixel resolution.
