iPad Air 3 release date: Interest in tablet renewed as predecessor celebrates 2nd anniversary

With Apple’s highly anticipated event in a couple of days where both the new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air laptops are said to be launched, rumors are suggesting that the overdue iPad Air 3 might also make an appearance.

Along with the reinvigorated interest for the Air lineup prompted by numerous tips that the Cupertino-based company is actually planning to launch a refreshed MacBook Air, its tablet version is also getting a share of the spotlight. This is despite a very slim chance that the iPad Air 3 will make its grand debut on Oct. 27 given that the rumor mill has been overly silent about the device in the past couple of months. On the bright side, it is still expected to see the light of day, possibly at a later time. This has been the prevalent theory ever since the tablet was effectively ditched by Apple last March.

Aside from the obvious clamor that it still draws from tech geeks, the iPad Air line is also overdue for an overhaul. Its last incarnation has already turned two following its announcement last Oct. 16, 2014. The reception for the iPad Air 2 was overwhelmingly positive with The Verge even calling it “the best tablet ever made,” at least during that time. Naturally, given its success, consumers are looking forward to its successor which is expected to integrate missed opportunities with the iPad Air 2.

So far, no word from Apple yet as to when consumers might be able to get the first look at the supposed iPad Air 3. But a lot of insiders believe that it is only a matter time before it is introduced and it could be chalked up to effective marketing strategies.

For those who are planning to catch Apple’s event to see what the company will bring to the table, the gathering will be held at the Apple Campus in Cupertino on Oct. 27 and will be streamed live starting at 10 a.m. PT/ 1 p.m. ET.
