Is a new iPad Air tablet going to be released this year? It has been almost two years since Apple has released the latest version of its iPad Air tablet, the iPad Air 2, and last year, many fans were disappointed when the Cupertino-based company did not launch a follow-up to the gadget. However, rumors claim that the Apple iPad Air 3 is going to be launched sometime this year, specifically, in October.
According to PC Advisor, Apple has a history of announcing the iPad Air in October, and the gadget is usually available to the public in the same or the following month. The original iPad Air was announced on Oct. 22, 2013, before a November release; while the iPad Air 2 was unveiled on Oct. 16, 2014, and released later on the same month. Based on the previous devices’ launch dates, it’s likely that the tech giant won’t deviate from tradition with regard to the iPad Air 3’s announcement.
With regard to its design, the iPad Air 3 is expected to be thinner than the present model, which would be an impressive feat for the company as the iPad Air 2 is just 6.1 mm thin. The upcoming device is also rumored to be more durable than previous models as it was speculated that it will have an aluminum body. The device is expected to come in the classic Gold, Space Grey, and Silver Grey color options, with the possible addition of a Rose Gold version.
The iPad Air 3 is expected to have a 9.7-inch display with a 2,048 x 1,536 pixel resolution, and it is likely that it will have the 3D Touch technology currently found in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. A new processor, presumably the A10, could power the device, and the tablet could also have improved cameras. The current iPad Air model has an 8-megapixel iSight camera and a front-facing FaceTime HD 1.2-megapixel camera.
As for the price, the iPad Air 3 is expected to cost about $520 for the basic Wi-Fi only 16 GB model. Prices are expected to be higher for other models.
