After getting officially launched in its home market China, the new Huawei Maimang 5, the successor to the successful Maimang 4, is now available for purchase in the country.

The Huawei Maimang 5 features a metal unibody paired with round edges. As for the display, the device sports a 5.5-inch IPS screen with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 401 ppi pixel density. The display also comes with a 2.5D curved glass panel for added protection.

As for what’s under the hood of the device, the Maimang 5 runs under a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 chipset, which was built under a 14 nm architecture. The octa-core central processing unit (CPU) has a clock speed of 2 GHz.

There will be a number of variants for the device, each of them differing from one another based on the amount of random access memory (RAM) and internal storage capacity that they have. The first variant comes with 3 GB worth of RAM, along with a 32 GB worth of built-in storage, and is available for a price of CNY 2,399 which is about $358. A more premium variant comes with 4 GB worth of RAM, alongside 64 GB of internal storage. This can be purchased for a price of CNY 2,599 or $388. Color options for the device include Champagne Gold, Moonlight Silver and Rose Gold.

The Maimang 5 has a 16-megapixel rear camera, which has phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and 4K video recording capability, alongside other features like USB OTG, 4G LTE connectivity, and a fingerprint scanner that supports wireless payment via Huawei Pay.

As of the moment, there is still no word on whether the Maimang 5 would be able to make it outside the Chinese market for an international release. If and when it does happen, the device is expected to be called the Huawei G9, since the Maimang 4 was released internationally as the Huawei G8.
