The award-winning legal drama has concluded its third season with quite a shocking twist. The person responsible of Wes’ (Alfred Enoch) death was finally revealed, and the “How to Get Away With Murder” creator seems so excited about the show’s next season.
The 15th episode of the series exposed Laurel’s (Karla Souza) father, Jorge (Esai Morales), as the mastermind of Wes’ murder. It turned out that Jorge hired a hitman named Dominic (Nicholas Gonzalez) to kill Wes and to burn the house of Annelise (Viola Davis) with Wes’ dead body inside.
“What I’m excited about is that him being the murderer really opens this door to a whole new world that I have been excited to explore, something that takes us out of Annalise’s little world and puts us into this big powerful telecommunications czar and all the power that wields,” Pete Nowalk explained his plan for the next season to The Hollywood Reporter.
Nowalk asserted that he really planned the big revelation for the third season’s finale, so they dropped clues on Laurel’s dad being the big and powerful man.
As for Laurel’s involvement of the crime, the series writer dished that she’s aware of her father’s illicit business, but she could not do anything about it, so the daughter decided to escape. “But he will not let her turn a blind eye, it turns out,” Nowalk said.
Now that the truth behind Wes’ murder has been disclosed, Nowalk confirmed that season 4 is going to be very complicated.
“We’ve hinted at things but I think we now need to really tell the audience what’s really going on,” the show creator admitted. He added that the upcoming season will tackle Dominic’s connection with Jorge and D.A. Denver (Benito Martinez).
Furthermore, Nowalk stated that in the upcoming season, fans would find Oliver (Conrad Ricamora), Connor (Jack Falahee), and Michaela (Aja Naomi King) as grown-ups. They would be “growing up for the better and the worse.”
