The popular action-adventure game “Horizon Zero Dawn,” has reached a new milestone on its first anniversary. The title is now the most successful first-party franchise launch on PlayStation 4 (PS4), after selling an astonishing 7.6 million copies worldwide since its release.

The highly acclaimed video game turned one year old on Wednesday. During the first two weeks of its release last year, it sold 2.6 million copies. As of June, the game had sold 3.4 million copies.

“We had huge ambition for ‘Horizon Zero Dawn’ and as we approached the launch we knew people were excited, but to see sales of this volume is truly mind blowing,” said Hermen Hulst, head of developer Guerrilla Games. “Since launch, millions of players have joined Aloy on a quest to discover the secrets of the old ones. We hope they enjoy playing Horizon: Zero Dawn as much as we enjoyed making it.”

The success of “Horizon Zero Dawn” is unprecedented, especially when considering the fact that it was released a debut game and not part of an already established franchise. In comparison, “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End,” which is part of the well-known Uncharted franchise, sold 8.7 million in its first seven and a half months.

“Horizon Zero Dawn” has been highly praised by critics and gamers due to its beautiful landscapes, crisp graphics and engaging narrative.

To celebrate the game’s first anniversary and the sales milestone, Guerrilla Games is giving away PS4 avatars themed after the open-world role-playing game. PS4 will also be releasing fan-made Photo Mode shots as part of a free console theme.

“Horizon Zero Dawn” players and gamers will also be able to enjoy a 25 percent discount on the Modern Icons Aloy statue for the entire month of March. In order to get the discount, players need only to enter the code “anniversary” during checkout.
