“Hawaii Five-0” is set to reach an important milestone with tonight’s installment. The tropical police procedural is celebrating its 150th episode but seemingly at the expense of Steve (Alex O’Loughlin) as he will have very awkward encounters with women from both his past and present.
The gist of the upcoming episode, titled “Ka makuahine a me ke keikikane (Mother and Son)” is basically the team leader embarking on a mission to save his mother, Doris (Christine Lahti) after she is captured and taken to a CIA black site. To make matters worse, delivering the bad news is his almost fiance, Catherine (Michelle Borth).
After ghosting on him at the start of last season, Catherine makes her grand entrance while Steve is on a date with his now girlfriend, Lynn (Sarah Carter). Needless to say, the events hereafter are quite awkward with the present beau oversharing to her predecessor.
“It’s definitely awkward in the beginning. He’s also annoyed at Catherine because of the way she left,” O’Loughlin admitted in a chat with Entertainment Weekly regarding the situation. “He understands classified operations, but she did it in a pretty shy way. He’s been really patient with that woman, too. He kept waiting for her and being patient. Still, he was going to propose, but she blew it in the end. He’s not resentful, but he’s trying to move on, and here she is again. They get to a really good place. They get to say the things that need to be said, and hear each other say those things. I really like the place that they get to. I hate the word empowering, but they both end up in better shape as a result of it.”
Steve is on his own in this particular episode as Danno (Scott Caan) is sitting this one out. As it turns out, Caan was not available for episode 150, which is kind of unusual given that he has been a mainstay in the series since day one, much like O’Loughlin. Narrative-wise, Danno will be out of town to visit his hospitalized father.
Elsewhere in the episode, Chin Ho (Daniel Dae Kim) continues to delay Sara’s (London Silzer) adoption but to no success. Grover (Chi McBride), on the other hand, does something for his son.
“Hawaii Five-0” season 7 airs every Friday, 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
