The season 7 premiere of the American police procedural remake, “Hawaii Five-0” is less than a month away, with several new exciting things to look forward to, including Steve McGarrett’s (Alex O’Loughlin) reunion with Catherine Rollins (Michelle Borth). But while everyone expects them to rekindle their brief romantic relationship, it looks like the way the producers are saying is that it is way more complicated than that.
Those who religiously follow the show know that earlier in the previous season, McGarrett took a gamble by finally asking Catherine to marry him, but everyone knew all too well that it wasn’t going to happen considering how they both had so many different and even opposite interests in life. While McGarrett certainly wanted for them to stay in Hawaii, it wasn’t the kind of thing Catherine would agree on. In fact, she found a way to decline the offer of marriage by way of flying out of the islands once again to lend her hand to those who need it somewhere else.
But why is she returning?
According to executive producer Peter M. Lenkov, via Entertainment Weekly, fans shouldn’t make a big deal out of Catherine’s return because the season 7 of “Hawaii Five-0” isn’t really about that. “Her relation to the story is more plot driven than reigniting that relationship,” Lenkov said.
Meanwhile, Lenkov also talked about Chin Ho Kelly’s (Daniel Dae Kim) awkward task of becoming a father next season, but it’s not what everyone thinks. Because of Gabriel Waincroft’s (Christopher Sean) death in prison, Chin will have to take care of Waincroft’s daughter, Sara (Londyn Silzer), who happens to be his niece.
Of course, there will always be that back-and-forth arguments and yelling between McGarrett and his partner, Danny Williams (Scott Caan), as the former continues to be as stubborn as he is in risking his life to catch the bad guys.
The new season of “Hawaii Five-0” debuts on Sept. 23 on CBS.
