Not much has been revealed about the “Han Solo” spin-off film. Fans do know that Alden Ehrenreich is going to be portraying the smuggler. Donald Glover was also added to the cast recently, and he will be playing Lando Calrissian. Aside from that, not much is known. Well, that’s not entirely true because some plot details did come out last week.
According to The Hollywood Reporter writer Borys Kit, sources have told him the film will cover how Han won the Millennium Falcon from Lando (and yes, he did misspell Calrissian).
The two talked about this event briefly when they met in Cloud City in “Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.” It looks like Han is going to be at the Cloud City Sabacc Tournament. Lando lost the ship when he was betting against Han in a Corellian Spike game of sabacc, so it would be interesting to see how this event plays out.
It should be noted that the game of sabacc was never mentioned in the movies and it only appeared in the Star Wars Expanded Universe (now called Star Wars Legends), and those stories are now considered non-canon thanks to Disney. So, the sabacc story appearing in the film is not a sure thing.
Of course, the entire film probably isn’t going to be about Han trying to get the Millennium Falcon from Lando. Ethan Anderton of SlashFilm actually made an interesting suggestion. He talked about having a scene where a galactic race will take place, and perhaps fans would finally see the Kessel Run that Han completed in less than 12 parsecs. That will be quite different from all the other “Star Wars” films.
The “Han Solo” spin-off movie is set to premiere on May 25, 2018. That’s a year and a half away, so a lot will be revealed from now until the movie hits the cinemas.
