GTA 6 rumors: Gamers get chance to play as law enforcers; female protagonist to headline game; release targeted for 2018?

After five installments of carjacking and living the life of an outlaw, players of the popular Grand Theft Auto franchise may finally be given the chance to play the game from the other side of the fence.

According to a report by Master Herald, the next installment of the GTA series will give gamers a choice to play a cop or law enforcer this time around. This presents a refreshing change for players who have had to play the role of a bad guy for the first five versions of the franchise and could encourage new players to try the game.

The report said that while the GTA franchise remains one of the most popular games on the market, there are those who have expressed reservations about trying it because of the antagonist role they are tasked to play.

Meanwhile, a comprehensive compilation of rumors at suggested that the game could come out as early as 2018 given the development timeline that the studio has charted for GTA 1-5. The first GTA came out in 1997, followed by the sequel in 1999. GTA 3 was released in 2001 but there was a long break before the fourth installment was released in 2008. It took another five years to complete GTA 5 which was released in 2013. If Rockstar Games manages to complete the development in another four years, a 2018 release could be likely. The worst case scenario is if it maxes out the development period and gets a 2020 release.

The report also suggested that a female protagonist could be headlining the next game, given the studio’s penchant for spinning the material to deliver a different take.

Aside from new missions, new locations, more vehicles and customizable characters which as on the fans’ wishlist, the report said that GTA 6 could employ a more realistic approach to the design and feel of the game.
