'GTA 6' release date, news: Take-Two Interactive CEO talks Nintendo NX support

Take-Two Interactive, overall publisher for popular game franchises such as the “Grand Theft Auto” series, the “BioShock” series, and “XCOM,” expressed their support and enthusiasm for the upcoming console of Japanese gaming giant Nintendo, the new Nintendo NX.

In a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick said that the company believes in what Nintendo is about to offer with the upcoming release of the NX console, mentioning the storied history of the Japanese company who has been in the gaming scene far longer than most of the other big companies today.

“We’re believers,” Zelnick said. “We never want to count Nintendo out. They do it over and over and over again. So we feel pretty enthusiastic really.”

The support came in spite of the noticeably subpar performance of the current Wii U console. The console was perceived to be much less of a success as compared to its predecessor, the Nintendo Wii, deemed to be a massive success for a gaming console.

This, Zelnick said, is only a part of the natural cycle of something that has come and gone in the industry, and that Nintendo has experienced this for over a hundred years now.

“It’s not a slump, it’s intentional,” he said. “They come to market, they do really well, and then they sort of exit the market for a period of time… They’re really thoughtful, they come to market with something they really think is going to work, more often than not it really works, it blows up, and then eventually they let it decline and they move on to the next thing. They don’t mind having time in between.”

The company CEO, however, had not touched on whether they have games under their hood, such as the long rumored “GTA VI,” that are being geared up for a release for the Nintendo NX console.

The Nintendo NX is set for a release in March 2017.
