'GTA 6' release date rumors, news: game's release unlikely for this year

Fans of the “Grand Theft Auto” open world action-adventure video game series were hopeful that Rockstar Games would be providing new information about the upcoming installment, “GTA VI,” during the recently concluded PlayStation Meeting organized by Sony; but much to the dismay of everyone, there was no sign of the game.

Even though previous revelations from several people connected to Rockstar or those who claim to have knowledge of the game’s development say that the new game is indeed coming, it’s been quite a while since new information has been handed out. Is this because the game developer is simply too busy with other game titles or perhaps the game developer just wants to make everything a complete surprise?

Based on the most recent reports, “GTA VI” is going to be announced before the end of the year. Although this is music to the ears of the fans, the same thing has been rumored for the past couple of months. Therefore, it’s just way too difficult right now to put that much hope on an imminent release. However, the fact that Rockstar also seems to be doing the same thing with another popular upcoming game, “Red Dead Redemption 2” is proof that there still is hope for the sixth installment and that the only thing that’s keeping the game from being released is the notion that its developer wants to make a big splash during its launch, hence, the absence of any teasers or trailers for that matter.

In the spirit of fairness though, Rockstar did take five years before it launched the current version, “GTA V” after the previous one, “GTA IV” was released in 2008. So if that trend of development is to be followed, there is a good chance that “GTA VI” will officially hit stores by 2018, or exactly five years after the 2013 release of “GTA V.”
