Alex’s (Justin Chambers) woes continue following his loss of composure with fellow doctor Andrew (Giacomo Gianniotti) in last season’s finale. With the trial already rolling out, things are not looking good for the veteran “Grey’s Anatomy” member.
While Alex’s predicament is nothing but a bad place to be in, Chambers is actually excited to see how his character’s plot arc for season 13 actually unfolds. Last week’s episode saw Bailey (Chandra Wilson) prevent tension brought about by Andrew’s impending return by sending the veteran pediatric surgeon to the Denny Duquette Memorial Clinic. The development also paves the way for his former mentor, Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) to come back into the fold in Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital’s free clinic.
“He’s going to be working at the Duquette Clinic, so let’s see what direction that takes him in,” Chambers exclusively told Entertainment Weekly during a set visit from the media outlet. “He’s definitely going to serve something, and he’s got to find redemption.”
Capshaw is tipped to return in this week’s episode titled “I Ain’t No Miracle Worker” where her character will be caught in between the AlexAndrew fiasco from the moment Arizona lands from New York.
“I think an interesting story’s going to happen there,” the 46-year-old actor added. “Maybe there’s something that he can pull Arizona into at the clinic, something that’s important in pediatrics. We’ll see.”
Meanwhile, as Alex is serving his time at the smaller, undermanned clinic, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) will be trying to make things less worse for him so he can eventually come back to claim his spot at the hospital. However, her good intentions will not be executed as easily especially with other eyes watching her every move.
“Meredith has to pull it back,” Pompeo revealed in a separate conversation with US Weekly. “She took that step toward possibly threatening, and then got her hand slapped by Dr. Bailey, and she doesn’t want to make anything worse for Alex, so she’s had to rein it in. She owns the hospital she doesn’t need a lawsuit.”
Furthermore, she also has her own woes to worry about as aside from the complexities of her ongoing romantic life, spoilers suggests that she and Maggie (Kelly McCreary) will be getting into a snag which will require Amelia’s (Caterina Scorsone) help.
“Grey’s Anatomy” airs every Thursday, 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
