There had been doubts about season 12 of Grey’s Anatomy, given that its 11th season ended at 36th in the overall viewer ranking the lowest ranking of the series’ history. Nonetheless, the 12th installment is gearing up and all set to go, with showrunners even revealing some plot details that fans can expect in the next season.
Romance will definitely be a topic for season 12. Shonda Rhimes, showrunner of Grey’s Anatomy said that April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams) will be parting ways in the next season, as reported by International Business Times. However, fans can also expect new romance blossoming for Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw). “Definitely some new romances for them this season, and some pretty exciting ones, too, which I think are going to be kind of interesting,” said Rhimes in Design & Trend.
Meanwhile, the show recently casted a new member, Martin Henderson, who will be introduced in the second half of the series. It is still unclear how Rhimes will introduce him in the story, but definitely, he will not be Derek Shepherd’s (Patrick Dempsey) replacement.
“Every time we’ve lost a major character – we’ve had such amazing characters on the show and every time we’ve lost one, it’s been devastating and sad. You think, ‘How can the show go on?’ But that’s how the writers find inspiration. So the loss of the big characters is exactly how the show does go on,” the showrunner explained in Design & Trend.
Earlier, Rhimes also said in a statement regarding the sequel’s storyline that “Meredith and the entire ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ family are about to enter uncharted territory as we head into this new chapter of her life. The possibilities for what may come are endless. As Ellis Grey would say ‘the carousel never stops turning,” as reported by Breathecast.
