There may have been heartbreak in Season 11 of Shonda Rhimes’ Greys Anatomy but there is hope for new love for the characters when the show returns for its 12th season.
According to a TVLine report, Callie and Arizona will both be finding new love after their marriage falls apart and they will both be falling for new women.
Meredith will also be moving on after the death of the love of her life Derek and she will be building relationships with her sisters Maggie and Amelia.
“Remember how we never saw last season where Maggie lives? Now she lives with Amelia and Meredith in Ellis’ house, which is super cool. There will definitely be some conflict, but of the hilarious variety as opposed to the sisters-pulling-each-other’s-hair-out variety. You can expect some ‘clashes of the titans’ going on,” Rhimes hinted.
“So many people lose their spouses in a myriad of different ways and feel they can’t get up again and to tell the story of how life goes on after… that’s a story worth telling,” Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith, said.
After last season’s ultimatum, Jackson and April’s relationship will also see some major changes as April chooses to go overseas despite her husband’s warning that her leaving would spell the end of their marriage.
Rhimes said that they have not decided the marriage’s fate for now but the series is figuring out a lighter approach to the emotional issue.
“Because this is a lighter season, we found funny ways to tell what’s a very emotional story more of a charming way to tell an emotional story, but it is still emotional and they are still figuring it out. April is fighting for things to be better. I honestly haven’t decided how it’s going to turn out. I love them together, so we’ll see,” Rhimes told Entertainment Weekly.
