'Grey's Anatomy' news: Show returns on Feb. 11, Meredith will be in critical condition after patient's violent attack

Long running ABC’s medical drama series “Grey’s Anatomy” is set to return to the small screen for the second half of season 12 featuring what could be a dangerous episode for one of the lead characters.

According to TV Line, Kelly McCreary, who portrays Maggie, shared that her half-sister, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), will be attacked viciously by a patient.

“Meredith is attacked, and it is as terrifying and as shocking as you would expect for it to be. Get ready to have your guts feel like they’re coming out of you, because it is truly harrowing,” she said during the recent Television Critics Association winter press tour.

The promotional teaser also gave a quick look on what may happen to Meredith, and it seemed like she would be in a critical condition.

She can be seen in the clip lying on an operating table with her closest friends and fellow doctors around her including Maggie, Dr. Webber (James Pickens Jr.), Alex (Justin Chambers), Owen (Kevin McKidd) and April (Sarah Drew).

Maggie said to Meredith, “We’re going to have to put a chest tube in. Your lung is collapsing,” before switching to the latter’s perspective. Apparently, she cannot hear what everyone around her was saying. Dr. Webber then chimed in suggesting, “You can’t work on your family” but she continued to do her job. Alex then interjected and stated, “Everybody in this damn room is her family.”

It was also revealed that it was Penny (Samantha Sloyan) who first saw her on the ground following the attack of the patient she was taking the vital signs of but wanted to get out of the room.

The episode is titled “The Sound of Silence” and directed by critically acclaimed actor turned director Denzel Washington. It remains to be seen what happens to Meredith and what causes the patient to act violently when season 12B premieres on Feb. 11 at 8 P.M. EST.
