Green Lantern Reboot: new DC movie releasing 2020 with title 'Green Lantern Corps'; Chris Pine or Tyrese Gibson to play titular role?

DC Cinematic Universe has confirmed that it is making a reboot of the emerald space cop superhero and announced the film would have the title “Green Lantern Corps” during Warner Brothers’ official panel at San Diego Comic Con.

Although no official announcement has been made yet on who will fill the position of the titular character, some reports previously suggested that the studio may be pinning for Chris Pine.

What added to the speculation is the image revealed at the panel which resembles the actor and reportedly caused the attendees inside Hall H to tweet that Pine may have already been offered the lead role, MTV shares.

The given title may suggest that the story will revolve around the intergalactic police officer rather than Earth-centric characters of DC comics. With the power of the Lantern and the ring, Cinema Blend notes that he can virtually have the ability to construct anything from force fields, armor and green fists to fight off bizarre alien creatures and watches over 3,600 sectors in the universe.

However, it is also possible that Tyrese Gibson will play the role of John Stewart as Green Lantern. The actor has been teasing a part in the film as he posted in his Instagram some photos made by fans and hinted that he might have met with the studio.

The second installment follows 2011’s film starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan which did not do so well in the box office and received poor reviews from both critics and fans.

Green Lantern Corps is slated for release on June 19, 2020 but he may also reportedly appear in at least two Justice League movies alongside Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg.

Another rumor mentioned that more identities and names carried by Green Lantern such as Guy Gardner and Jessica Cruz may be included in the upcoming film.
