'Gotham' season 3 spoilers: Bruce's doppelganger, bounty hunter Jim Gordon

The third season of “Gotham” debuts in a few days, and the stars of the hit FOX series have been spilling some details about the new season, their characters, and all the new villains set to cause mischief in the city.

Back in the season 2 finale, Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) released the most notorious among Professor Hugo Strange’s (BD Wong) monsters, and the escapees began walking through Gotham. One of them, a boy who resembles Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz), thanks Fish for freeing him before walking out of the bus.

It looks like Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) will have his hands full in season 3, but Mazouz revealed that Bruce’s doppelgnger, nicknamed Five, won’t have any evil intentions as he was created for a reason.

“People are thinking he’s an evil version of Bruce, but he really isn’t,” said Mazouz to TVLine. “He’s a guy who was created for a very specific purpose, and he’s ‘lost’ when we find him in season 3.”

However, other villains will prove to be evil as executive producer John Stephens said that the villains have become “more and more part of the fabric of the city” in the new installment. The new season is also said to be less of the police show that it was in its freshman run, especially now that Jim Gordon is working as a bounty hunter.

Blastr was on the set of the hit series during production for season 3, and the website notes that McKenzie is clad in all black and donning a leather jacket for the episode 5 shoot, which is a far cry from his character’s suits in the past seasons. Now that Gordon is operating as a gun for hire collecting the inmates who were freed from Strange’s laboratory, he has become something of a bad boy in the Gotham City Police Department (GCPD).

McKenzie told the website that as a bounty hunter, Gordon is “completely on the outside” and is at his lowest point.

“[He’s] drinking a lot, and trying to find some reason for being outside of just getting by,” said McKenzie. “When he gets his mojo back, and understands what it really is all about…it reinvigorates him, and allows him to operate in a new way within the GCPD.”

“Gotham” season 3 premieres Monday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
