The second season of FOX’s hit DC Comics TV series “Gotham” saw major development in the characters of Oswald Cobbblepot aka The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), and Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova), the young Catwoman. Now, in the upcoming season of the show, these two characters would find themselves headed toward a darker direction as they continue on becoming the iconic villains that they have been known as in the DC Comics Universe.
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, during the recently held San Diego Comic-Con, Taylor and Bicondova teased fans about the development of their characters in the upcoming season.
Following the healing of Penguin from his being “insane,” to his return to being the old Penguin that he was if not more ruthless and meaner than before fans can expect more darkness from the character in the new season.
“The great thing about this season is after last season, having the two people that he loves, in the entire world, taken away from him, he now has full license to go completely psychotic. There’s nothing holding him back,” Taylor said. “That’s sort of the overall theme of our show, about love and the loss of love, and to love someone is to be vulnerable.”
As for Selina, Bicondova said that while Selina is goodhearted by nature, the new season would see her explore more of the dark side.
“I think Selina is always exploring that without even knowing, because she has a genuine heart, she’s very loyal, and she’s very honest and intelligent,” Bicondova said. “But I think just as natural as her goodheartedness is her evilness. This season we’re actually going to be seeing her go down a darker path, and I’m so excited.”
“Gotham” will premiere its new season on Monday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
