'Gotham' season 2 spoilers: Theo Galavan resurrects as Azrael in episode 19

After taking a break for one week, season 2 of “Gotham” will return with episode 19 on Monday, May 2, where the city will encounter a newly resurrected villain.

Titled “Azrael,” Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) and James Gordon (Ben Mckenzie) will confront Professor Strange (BD Wong) about the night Wayne’s parents died as well as the ongoing Project Chimera in the upcoming episode. However, Professor Strange will not be pleased with their intent and will threaten them with a newly resurrected Theo Galavan (James Frain), who died earlier in the hands of Gordon and Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor).

On the other hand, somewhere in the city, Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) will also try to look deeper into the identity of Professor Strange. Will he uncover more about the unusual person who conducts bizarre experiments?

In the promotional trailer for episode 19, Galavan will be referring to himself as the redeemed one, or simply, Azrael. Unlike his first look, the new version is now clad in a red and black outfit, along with a sword, similar to its comic book version.

About two months ago, executive producer John Stephens already hinted the rise of Azrael in a discussion with Comic Book. He hinted that the character will have similarities with the comic book version, but also gave a heads up that “It will have a brand-new twist upon that character; the way we’re going to bring that character into being on our show will be different than anything we’ve seen in the comics.”

Episode 19 of “Gotham” season 2 will air on May 2 at 8 P.M. EST on Fox.

The season is down to its last few episodes with the show expected to conclude on May 23. In the episode finale, Penguin will return and seek revenge on all the people who did him wrong, revealed a spoiler on TV Guide.
