“Girl Meets World” creator Michael Jacobs shares that the brewing love triangle among Riley (Rowan Blanchard), Lucas (Peyton Meyer) and Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) is to be resolved next season.
Season 2 of the hit sitcom ended with no resolution when it comes to the ongoing conflict among the friends. In the finale, Lucas decided to remain friends with both girls to prevent either one of them from being hurt. Given this, fans have continuously wondered on when Lucas would finally make up his mind on who to choose between the best friends.
“This will be answered in season 3. It will span probably a third to a half of season 3. Not as primary focus, but always as an underlying thing in existence for the characters. And then when we bring it up to primary, we will resolve it,” show creator Michael Jacobs told The Wrap in an interview earlier this month.
The producer added that the upcoming season not only aims to put an end to the tension among friends but also to answer a “much bigger question, which is, how do young people at this age perceive relationships? What is the value of them? And what are our friendships, really?”
Given that the show’s goal is to be as relevant as they could be to their target demographics, Jacobs was also asked on the possibility of tackling other prevalent high school issues like sex and underage drinking to which he answered, “We’re on Disney Channel. As long as this show runs on Disney Channel, we want to honor the people who invited us to play at their house.”
Other than the character development of Riley, Lucas and Maya, Josh (Uriah Shelton) is also slated to be back in action. It can be remembered that back in season 2, the young actor had to be written off the rest of the season as he was in a bad accident. Now that he has already fully recovered, he will be back in the show to the delight of his fans.
As to what could be expected from his return, Jacobs was forthcoming, revealing that they plan to put him in the center of other complex situations.
“Nothing in life that is valuable is an easy road. We’re going to use Josh to just add what we think is texture and growth to the other characters.”
No official date yet as to when “Girl Meets World” season 3 will be back on air, but it is currently in production already.
