“‘The Winds of Winter’ is not finished.”

George R.R. Martin wrote on his blog just on the second day of the year to the dismay of a lot of “Game of Thrones” fans. The author opened up the long blog post by saying that fans were clamoring for an update for the longest time. Although it would be an update, they would not like what it would be about.

“Believe me, it gave me no pleasure to type those words. You’re disappointed, and you’re not alone. My editors and publishers are disappointed, HBO is disappointed, my agents and foreign publishers and translators are disappointed… but no one could possibly be more disappointed than me. For months now I have wanted nothing so much as to be able to say, ‘I have completed and delivered ‘The Winds of Winter’ on or before the last day of 2015.'”

Unfortunately, that is not the case as the follow-up book in the “A Song of Fire and Ice”  book series did not make it to its self imposed deadline, which is before the sixth season of HBO’s “Game of Thrones.”

Given that the book is already delayed, when can fans expect the book to finally drop? Unfortunately, Martin has been upfront about it saying that the book still has a long way to go. Although there are hundreds of pages already finished, there is still a whole lot left to write about. On top of that, the rigorous rewriting and editing process will also take some time to make sure that the book is as flawless as it can be.

With HBO pushing through with the much awaited come back of “Game of Thrones” and the lack of material they will be basing the story on, will the show spoil the book for fans? Martin stated that it would be inevitable that some plot twists will happen on TV before it can be read in the books. Still, given his knack of story writing, it can be assumed that he will still be able to find new ways to keep the story as thrilling and interesting as possible.
