'Furious 8' casting news: Charlize Theron tapped to play the movie's antagonist

Vin Diesel and company are heading back to the streets for the eight installment of the massive “Fast and Furious” franchise. Now, they are looking to spice things up a bit by supposedly tapping critically acclaimed actress Charlize Theron as the main villain of the film.

A report by Variety stated that Theron received an offer to join the “Fast and Furious” ensemble of Diesel (Dominic Toretto), Michelle Rodriguez (Letty Ortiz), Tyrese Gibson (Roman Pearce), Chris “Ludacris” Bridges (Tej Parker), and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (Luke Hobbs). As of now, it is still unclear if Theron will join the movie, but a source of the website revealed that Universal is very much interested in getting the actress on board.

Theron recently starred in the 2015 action film movie “Mad Max: Fury Road” alongside Tom Hardy, where she played a lieutenant who was sent riding her armored semi-truck to collect gasoline in the middle of the aftermath of a nuclear holocaust.

Shall the Academy Award winning actress decide to sign up for the role, she might join “Fast and Furious 7” villain Jason Statham (Deckard Shaw), who is already set to reprise his character in the upcoming movie.

As previously reported, film director, F. Gary Gray expressed his desire to steer the franchise to a brand new direction and adding the franchise’s very first female villain may be his first step in the process.

“Fast and Furious 8” is set to start production this spring with April 17, 2017 as its targeted release date.
