'Frozen 2' news: Idina Menzel jokes about Elsa's fate

Very limited official reports are coming out of Disney with regard to the production of the upcoming follow-up to “Frozen.” However, the film’s lead voice actress Idina Menzel has recently hinted on a possible scenario that may not be entirely good news to those who are patiently waiting for the return of Elsa and Anna.

E! News was fortunate enough to talk to the Broadway icon who was present during the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award celebration for composer John Williams last weekend. There, she was questioned about what fans can expect in “Frozen 2,” especially with her character Elsa.

Menzel was generous enough to give some updates, however, by the end of her statement, she belatedly joked about the ultimate fate of the current queen of Arendelle which drew attention.

“We are at story writing and they’re working on it and I think I’m in it,” Menzel spilled. “That’s all I know unless maybe Elsa falls off an ice cliff and she dies in the first five minutes.”

Despite Menzel’s playful tone, the concept that a main character dying is not entirely new for Disney and may very well also happen to “Frozen 2”. Oftentimes, the plot twist is utilized to move the story forward and give some emotional motivation for the lead character. However, should Disney decide to go down this path, this will be the first time that a lead character, after starring in one full movie, dies on its follow-up.

Menzel’s on-screen sister Kristen Bell, who voices Anna, has previously revealed that Disney was very keen on nailing the perfect narrative for the sequel.

“The story is great, and they exude quality. What I know about that whole team is that they wouldn’t just put something out to put it out,” the actress told Collider. “It took them a while because they wanted to figure out what story they needed to tell and what would be important and engaging and I think they found it.”

“Frozen 2” is currently under production.
